A French invoice number that breaks the rules is now refused with the rule's name

apifrance

An invoice that declares the French regime must follow French rules about its number, and until now a number that broke them came back as 422 provider.rejected with a generic "Invoice validation failed" message. You could not tell what to change.

What changed

A declared French invoice whose number breaks either limit below is refused by getpeppr with 400 invoices.france_invoice_number_invalid, before anything is submitted. The message names the rule and the fix; it never repeats your number.

  • French rule BR-FR-01: at most 35 characters, made only of letters, digits and + - _ /, with no spaces.
  • The French tax platform's current ceiling: at most 20 characters, until 1 December 2026. We stop applying it on that date, as announced.

Invoices that do not declare the French regime are not affected.
